TO BE THE NEXT AR ZAU
About the Book: It’s October 1998 and the moon is going to be destroyed within the week by an approaching asteroid. Twenty-five year old Tannen Odom returns to North Hetnam after hiding out as a regular citizen for the past two years under the protection of a government agency--The Bureau of Puerite Naturalization. While Tannen intends to pay his respects to his fallen mentor and leave quickly, he becomes intrigued by the many speculations surrounding the death of the Ar Zau.
Ever since the Midwestern town of North Hetnam was manipulated into a safe haven for Puerites (a race of human beings that can move and pressure objects with their minds) it has been a center for unrest, decadence and controversy. When the town’s ranking Puerite representative (the Ar Zau) dies the situation in North Hetnam spirals toward a new level of contention.
Tannen finds himself pulled into the middle of the political debate when his Uncle Roost and prominent local businessman Ifram McLaughlin separately pressure him into joining their bids against each other to take the vacant Ar Zau position. When Tannen turns to The Bureau of Puerite Naturalization for help he is encouraged to remain involved so he can provide them with information about the town’s rapidly changing political climate. Tannen attempts to walk a line between the three factions in the hope that he can bide his time in North Hetnam and disappear back into hiding without further issue.
In the shadows of the heated political rivalry Tannen finds solace in re-establishing friendships with some old buddies and the lover he abandoned when he first left town. Fawn seems willing to forget the past as she is open to renewing their relationship. An activist for saving the moon, Fawn pushes Tannen to use his influence with the Puerites to solicit their assistance in preventing the moon’s fast approaching destruction. His old friends Leon and Ogle react in obscure fashions to Tannen’s return which raises concerns about their true allegiances.
Political campaigns turn violent, rumors about the Ar Zau’s death run rampant, Pueratian existence is disrupted, loyalties are tested and dark secrets surface as the town of North Hetnam prepares for the eminent Lunar Armageddon.
